As always, Steam is celebrating the season by making all their games ridiculously inexpensive for half the month, and we’re about halfway through the sale so far, with tons of pretty awesome deals. Throughout the two-week period, Steam will have deals on all kinds of games, from new hits to older classics, and ranging from great deals on expensive games to complete steals on some older ones (or awesome indie games going for like 2-3 bucks, which is always fun). I haven’t really picked much up so far, but I did finally get a copy of Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition for 8 bucks yesterday, which was pretty awesome, since I’d been waiting for it to drop in price for a bit before buying it since SOMEHOW it’s still 40 bucks.
There’s also another special thing that they’re doing for this sale- something called the Great Gift Pile. Basically, for performing certain Steam-related tasks or doing achievements for games on Steam, you can get stuff like free games or coupons for games after the sale, which is kinda neat. It’s semi-unlikely that you’ll actually get a game of worth, but I ended up picking up a free copy of Portal 2, which is pretty neat, as well as having a couple friends give me their extra copies of games they already had- specifically Psychonauts and Dungeon Defenders. It’s definitely worth checking out, even if the chances are slim. They’ve got some pretty great games in the pile, and it’s pretty easy to get a bunch of entries for free or super cheap (since some are for little 3-dollar games that are a ton of fun, like Dungeons of Dredmore).
Still waiting on the rest of the sale, and it should be pretty awesome. Until next time!

This weekend was yet another Bay Area Touhou Gathering (the last one of the year!), and man, was it fun. This time around, we started things out in San Jose Japantown at Omogari Korean Restaurant, where I had some of the best fried rice that I’ve ever eaten. After that, we tooled about the area, [...]

I commented on the new version of BlazBlue last week, and one of the things that’s notable about Blazblue (and its “predecessor”, Guilty Gear, is its exceptional soundtrack. This soundtrack is the work of Daisuke Ishiwatari, creator of the original Guilty Gear series, and composer of all the music for both game series. The other [...]

For a long time, I’d made a conscious choice to just not care about BlazBlue. This was largely a pretty good idea, because back when I first saw it, BlazBlue was a pretty terrible game. Back in the early days of Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift, the game was a mess of balance and bad [...]

I’ve been a huge fan of the UFC ever since my buddies on Smogon got me into it, and ever since then, I’ve always wanted to attend one of the events. So when UFC 139 came to San Jose’s HP Pavillion, a couple blocks away from McEnery (where Fanime is located, so a very doable [...]

So the other day, I was tooling around Hulu, and took a gander at their Animation section. I remembered watching Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood on there, and noted that while they did have some interesting and hard to find series, their collection was fairly lacking. So when I looked this time, I was quite surprised [...]

So around Fanime, I heard about this movie that was supposed to be coming out called Trigun: Badlands Rumble, and while I had high hopes, I was also a bit worried. I’m fully aware of what usually happens when a studio tries to revove a long-finished series, and usually it only ends in tears. That [...]

Since I started reading Homestuck shortly after Fanime, I became a pretty huge fan of it. Despite starting out in a pretty silly and simplistic manner, it matures quickly and effectively into a deep story spanning thousands of carefully crafted images. That said, if there was ever a point at which it was proven how [...]

This Saturday was yet another Bay Area Touhou gathering, and all in all, things went pretty well. We started things off with a neat lunch at Mission Street Chinese Food, and then headed over to the Southtown Arcade to hang out for a while. The arcade was actually remarkably small, and definitely not as big [...]

I mentioned earlier that I was doing a bit of a side project for the LP of Labyrinth of Touhou, and while I’ve been writing the mechanics and character posts for the LP, I’ve also been doing something else fun. Labyrinth of Touhou has a fairly interesting New Game + feature, where you can start [...]
